Περιγραφή

The Concise Modern Greek Grammar (1949) by Manolis Triandaphyllidis is a shorter version of the Grammar of Modern Demotic Greek, first published in 1941 by the Greek Government Schoolbook Press. An abridged and slightly revised edition of the Concise Modern Greek Grammar continues to serve as the basic manual of instruction in Greek schools. The Institute of Modern Greek Studies (Manolis Triandaphyllidis Foundation) is a centre of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. The English translation of the Concise Modern Greek Grammar is one of a series of publications designed by the Institute to allow the Modern Greek language to become more widely known and taught outside Greece. Translations already published or in preparation include Albanian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, French, Georgian, German, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Turkish and Ukrainian. For obvious reasons, the translations take account of the orthographical reforms adopted since 1976 and incorporated into the official school grammar that is taught throughout the Greek education system. The translators are all native speakers of the languages into which they translate, and most hold university appointments. John Burke is Senior Lecturer in Modern Greek at the University of Melbourne.
